Help Save Our Airport, which is at risk of closure. The new owners have stated it is not currently economically viable and are considering its future.
There has been widespread and strong support from our community, pilots, aviation sector, medical and emergency agencies for it to remain open. We believe Kāpiti Airport must be kept open and its long-term ensured.
It is frequently used for medical emergencies, provides a safe harbour for pilots travelling between the North and South Islands, and will be crucial in a major disaster. The Airport returns $4.3 million per year in economic benefit to the Kāpiti Region.
Save Kāpiti Airport is working with experts to create a proposed future mixed-use model which will ensure its long-term sustainability – and create a win/win solution allowing the airport to reach its full potential and the community it serves to flourish.
