Let’s create a legacy that generation after generation can play a part in shaping.
Kāpiti Airport has significant future potential if we develop the land around it for the benefit of our community, and keep the airport running. We can have an airport and develop the land around it.
We want to bring places and spaces to life that thoughtfully consider our people and the planet. Our shared vision is a thriving, sustainable airport, state-of-the-art aviation facilities, climate conscious buildings, trailblazing technologies and open spaces that enrich lives.
Every member of the Kāpiti community – today and tomorrow – will be empowered by this vision.
Hapū rights and a partnership that lives up to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi will be right at the heart of this.
Beyond its incredible potential, we must not forget that Kāpiti Airport is the gateway to critical strategic infrastructure that saves lives. We cannot put a price on this.
A poll commissioned by Save Kāpiti Airport found 85% of Kāpiti residents oppose the Airport’s closure, and 83% also believe the Government should step in and stop the proposed closure.
It also found:
- 87% of our community says this issue is important to them.
- 78.1% agree the Kāpiti Coast Airport is an important economic asset for the community
- 82.3% agree the Kāpiti Coast Airport is vital for Civil Defence in case of a major earthquake in the Wellington region,
- 80.7% agree Kāpiti Coast Airport is a vital lifeline for medical emergencies.
Our community is in a David vs Goliath battle.
We’re up against international finance and interests, and property developers who will do anything they can to close our Airport and build houses. Kāpiti does not want to lose its Airport; collectively, we all agree it’s an important asset.
We’ll share our plan and way forward soon but don’t delay in having your say.
Kāpiti Airport must be saved today before we run out of time. Once the airport is gone, it’s gone. You can play your part in preserving this iconic and critical community asset – you can volunteer your time, donate to our campaign, or sign our petition here
Save Kāpiti Airport commissioned the Poll to better understand the community’s views on the Airport and its role in the wider region. The highly engaged poll conducted by Community Engagement between 5-8 March 2021, has a margin of error of +/-3.26% and on completion the data was weighted to reflect local population demographics.
